Douglas hosts international baseball tourney

Seventeen teams spent Labor Day weekend in Douglas competing in the International Baseball Tournament put on by Sergio Hernandez and his committee.

The tournament featured teams from Arizona and Mexico competing in three different age groups.

In the 7-8 year old age group there were six teams. First place went to the Agua Prieta Vaqueritos; second place to Bachicuy of Agua Prieta; third place went to a team from Nogales, Ariz.; fourth place, Hermosillo, Sonora and fifth and sixth place went to the two Douglas teams.

In the 9-10 division there were also six teams with just one being from Douglas. First place went to a team from the Tucson Rodeo League. Second place went to Bachicuy of Agua Prieta; third place the team from Douglas; fourth place Hermosillo; fifth place Nogales, Ariz. and sixth place went to Sunnyside from Tucson.

In the 11-12 year old division Hermosillo won the five team pool beating a team from Douglas who took second. Bachicuy of Agua Prieta placed third followed by the Agua Prieta Vaqueritos in fourth and another Douglas team in fifth.

Javier Bojorquez was named the best homerun hitter of the tournament hitting three home runs.
