Improvement project on US 191 in Douglas begins today

Douglas Dispatch

Motorists traveling on US 191 in Douglas will encounter travel restrictions as the Arizona Department of Transportation begins a project to resurface the highway near the U.S.-Mexico border.

From 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 6 and Wednesday, Nov. 7, crews will mill the highway surface between 14th Street and First Street in preparation for applying a new surface coat that will improve driving conditions and extend the life of the road.

Two lanes will remain open to traffic during the work while crews remove the surface asphalt from the remaining lane. The posted speed limit will be 35 mph through the project area and brief delays are possible.

The project also includes a new traffic signal that will be installed at the intersection with First Street in early 2013.

ADOT advises drivers to proceed through the work zone with caution, slow down, and be alert for construction equipment and personnel.
