Douglas man arrested with $119,000 worth of marijuana

A Douglas man was arrested Oct. 17 for attempting to smuggle nearly $119,000 worth of marijuana through the Douglas Port of Entry.

According to a press release from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection office, the 18-year-old, who is not being identified at this time, was escorted to an inspection area after a narcotic detection canine alerted to his Chevrolet sedan.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers then conducted a thorough inspection and found more than 200 packages of marijuana throughout the vehicle. The drugs, weighing 237 pounds, and vehicle were processed for seizure.

The subject was turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.

In a separate incident on Oct. 14 a Mexican national, who is a permanent resident of the United States, was arrested for attempting smuggle more than $51,000 worth of marijuana through the Douglas Port of Entry.

David J. Wise, 31, who was traveling with his two minor children, was escorted to the inspection area after a narcotics detection canine alerted to his Volkswagen sedan.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers then conducted a thorough inspection and found more than 100 packages of marijuana throughout the vehicle. The drugs, weighing 102 pounds, and vehicle were processed for seizure.

Wise was turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations. His children were turned over to a family member.
