Bulldog matmen begin season with loss to Empire By Bruce WhettenDouglas Dispatch Douglas High School’s wrestling team kicked off its season last week with a 51-30 dual match loss to the Empire Ravens. Thomas Cardenas wrestling at 106-pounds for Douglas, was pinned in 1:33. Rogelio Martinez dropped an 8-7 decision at 113-pounds. At 120-pounds Bulldog Cristian Ross was pinned in 5:23. Douglas’ Israel Andrade was pinned in 5:24 in his 126-pound match. At 132-pounds Jacob Ybarra gave Douglas its first win of the night pinning his opponent in 1:59. Michael Molina followed with a win by forfeit at 138-pounds. Saul Salinas fell in 1:42 at 145-pounds. Brandon Moreno was pinned in 1:36 at 152-pounds and Andrew Parra had his shoulders put to the mat in 4:23 at 160-pounds. Robbie Romero, wrestling at 170 for Douglas, won his match by forfeit. Brandon Cardenas, wrestling at 182, was pinned in 2:32. Douglas’ Carlos Estrada needed just 56 seconds to put his opponents shoulders to the mat in his 195-pound match. Roly Ruiz was pinned in his 220 pound match and heavyweight Nick Leigh won his match by forfeit. The Bulldogs are in Tucson today for a dual meet with Buena and Sunnyside. On Friday and Saturday they are at Pueblo High School for the William Bell Invitational. Douglas’ home opener will be Wednesday, Dec. 5 against Sabino and Amphi. The annual Douglas Invitational wrestling tournament will be Dec. 7-8. An estimated 17 teams are expected to attend
