A Veterans Day Program will be held on Nov. 8 at 9:30 a.m. at the Douglas High School Auditorium.

The event is being sponsored by the American Legion and American Legion Auxiliary Fred Hilburn Post and Unit 11.

Chairmen Don Jordon and Karen Smith have planned and organized this event to honor and recognize all veterans both living and dead who have served the U.S. Armed forces.

“We invite all of our veterans to attend so that we may recognize you for your service,” Smith said.

The U.S. 62nd Army Band as well as the Girl and Boy State Citizens and Miss. Poppy will be there to highlight the program.

Mayor Danny Ortega Jr. and Douglas High School Principal Randy Walk will bring greetings. The Douglas Fire Department Honor Guard will present and retreat the flags.

Chairman Teo Rodriguez is currently planning a program for Stevenson Elementary for Nov. 9.

The American Education Week will be held Nov. 11-17. The theme for the event will be “Great Public Schools are our Right and Responsibility.”

Hilburn will recognize the staff of Douglas Unified School District by delivering apples, cookies and thank you notes to all staff members.

Mayor Ortega has issued a proclamation for this week honoring all educators.
