The 2012-13 soccer season did not quite start the way first year soccer coach Mario Romero would have liked as his Lady Bulldogs suffered three straight losses at the Brandon Bean Invitational.

The Lady Bulldogs began the week Nov. 19 at Buena where they fell 5-1. Eric Romero had the lone goal of the match for Douglas who was out shot 26-7 by the Lady Colts.

The next night Douglas hosted Sahuaro in the Lady Bulldogs home opener. Seven minutes into the match it was 3-0 and the Lady Cougars went on to blank Douglas 10-0.

Sahuaro out shot the Lady Bulldogs 30-5. Amanda Teran had two saves at goalie.

On Friday the Lady Bulldogs were back in Tucson facing Catalina Foothills. The Lady Bulldogs were shutout for the second straight match falling 7-0 as Douglas was out shot 27-1.

In three games at the tournament Douglas was outscored 22-1.

Coach Romero said his team struggled Friday against the defending state champions and their inexperience showed.

“I was pleased with their performance,” he said.

The Lady Bulldogs, 0-3, were on the road last night at Safford and will host Nogales and Rio Rico this Thursday and Friday at Douglas High School.

Game time will be 6 p.m. both nights.
