Bisbee vs. Douglas rivalry finishes second in national contest

The Douglas vs. Bisbee rivalry, which has been going on since 1906, finished second in a national contest put on by the USA Today.

The USA Today wrapped up its month long competition to determine the nation’s top high school football rivalry and the winner was Brookfield, Mo. vs. Marceline, Mo. finishing with 1,761,259 votes. The two schools will split a $10,000 grand prize.

The Douglas vs. Bisbee rivalry was second with 952,580 votes followed by St. Johnsbury, Vt. vs. Lyndon Center, Vt. who had 656,146 votes and fourth was two schools in Alabama who had 223,670 votes.

The Douglas vs. Bisbee rivalry won both the state and regional rounds advancing to the final four national round.

This year’s game will be the 143rd meeting between Douglas and Bisbee. It will be played in Bisbee in October of 2013.
