The national recession began in December 2007 and ended in June 2009. Cochise County, although somewhat buffered by Fort Huachuca and associated high levels of federal spending, was impacted along with the rest of the state and nation. Although declines locally weren’t as steep as those statewide, the state economy began recovering earlier and has generally seen stronger rebounds.

Gas price continues free fall
According to the latest survey by the Cochise College Center for Economic Research, conducted December 10—14, the average price of a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline in Cochise County fell from $3.54 to $3.44 over the preceding two-week period. According to AAA Arizona, the statewide price dropped from $3.38 to $3.22. Nationally, according to the Energy Information Administration, the price declined from $3.44 to $3.35.

Hundreds show up for Turkey Trot
Hundreds of local residents and even some from out of town spent their Thanksgiving Day morning taking part in the 11th annual Douglas Run/Walk for the Cure Turkey Trot which was held at Airport Park.

ACT collects food for the holiday
The ACT Call Center on 10th Street gathered food for the Thanksgiving holiday. According to Supervisor Christy Rios all three departments at the Call Center gathered a total of 500 canned goods, 100 bags of perishable items and 63 boxes of mashed potatoes. “Everything we collected was for a Thanksgiving dinner.
