Gas price continues free fall

According to the latest survey by the Cochise College Center for Economic Research, conducted December 10—14, the average price of a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline in Cochise County fell from $3.54 to $3.44 over the preceding two-week period. According to AAA Arizona, the statewide price dropped from $3.38 to $3.22. Nationally, according to the Energy Information Administration, the price declined from $3.44 to $3.35.


At the city level, the price of a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline in Benson decreased from $3.61 to $3.53. In Bisbee, the price fell from $3.59 to $3.49. In Douglas, the price dropped from $3.58 to $3.47. In Huachuca City, the price declined from $3.47 to $3.37. In Sierra Vista, the price was down from $3.46 to $3.38. In Tombstone, the price decreased from $3.48 to $3.37. In Willcox, the price of gas fell from $3.60 to $3.48 per gallon.

A year ago, the nationwide average price of a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline, according to EIA, was $3.34, which is 1 cent lower than its current price. At the state level, according to AAA Arizona, the price a year ago was 5 cents higher at $3.27. In Cochise County, according to the CER survey, the price a year ago was 6 cents lower at $3.38.

    " Why is gas so expensive here? Its about 45 cents cheaper per gallon in Tucson.
    You can't tell me that it costs 40 cents per gallon more just to transport the fuel down to Douglas. I think the real crooks are the people who own and set the prices for gas in this town.

    I would like the Douglas Dispatch to interview some of these owners and ask them to justify why our prices for gas are so high. "
