People began lining up early hoping to get a pancake breakfast which was served free to kids 12 and under while those older paid $1.
An estimated couple hundred people came through the door while approximately 150 kids had a chance to visit briefly with Santa; each getting a free toy.
Organizers for the event were pleased with how smoothly things ran for the second straight year.
Volunteers from St. Stephens, the Douglas High School Spiritline which included Spike and Spikette and the Douglas Dispatch helped things flow smoothly.
The city of Douglas in cooperation from the Douglas Fire Department and Cochise College presented Douglas on Ice.
The event began Saturday night with a musical production from the Cochise College Music Department at the Douglas Government Center. The group sang a variety of holiday musical numbers.
On Sunday people began lining up as early at 8 a.m. hoping to have an opportunity to once again visit with Santa and get a free gift courtesy of the Toys for Tots program. With event finally began at 10 a.m. the line to see Santa was clear down the block on G Ave.
While that was going on various booths were set up on G Ave. between 10th and 11th Street and hayrides were also given. Some BMX bikers were on hand to show off their skills with various stunts.
The highlight of the event was the ice skating rink. The ice was a synthetic hybrid ice which is made from an exclusive recyclable polymer compound and requires no electricity or refrigeration and is a energy safe alternative to real ice rinks.
There were plenty of people lining up all day long waiting to try their luck at ice skating.
What helped was the cool weather that was in Douglas that day providing that winter chill that goes along with Christmas.
Overall organizers for the event were very pleased with the turnout and happy to see the smiles on the kids faces.

I also heard the world was gonna end! I heard that Douglas is near financial collapse! I heard that the sewer system has rats the size of cats! I even heard there was gonna be a UFO landing on top of the Gadsden! BE POSITIVE....something new for Douglas should also be welcomed! GREAT JOB TO ALL THE CITY EMPLOYEES WHO MADE ICE SKATING POSSIBLE. Something different tot he area but very neat to see kids smile and be out in the cold weather instead being inside playing video games. Positive, young ideas are gonna save Douglas from the old foggy home! "
