City Council meeting tonight

The Douglas City Council will hold its regular monthly meeting tonight at 6 p.m. in the council chambers at City Hall.


The regular meeting will be preceded by a special meeting at 5:30 p.m. at which time there will be a presentation and some discussion by the Douglas Area Community Fund concerning possible club development within the city of Douglas.

When the regular meeting begins there will be 25 items on the agenda.

The Douglas Relay for Life will present a certificate to the mayor and council which will be followed by a presentation from Cochise College President Dr. J.D. Rottweiler concerning the history of Cochise College.

Several appointments to the planning and zoning commission and the youth activity fund committee are expected to be made.

There is expected to be some discussion regarding the possible approval of a special event liquor license by the Douglas Rotary Club for use at the Knights of Columbus on Feb. 9, 2013.

The mayor and council are expected to have some discussion regarding the possible approval of the revised temporary employee salary schedule reflecting the minimum wage increase from $7.65 to $7.80 per hour effective Jan. 1, 2013.

Several ordinances and resolutions are expected to have their first, second or third readings.

Some of the ordinances or resolutions deal with increasing the cemetery fees, approving two separate intergovernmental agreements with the Douglas Unified School District for the purpose of providing a paramedic and animal control internship to DHS students as well as the use of school recreational facilities for a after school youth activity program.

Gilbert Aguilar, city manager Carlos De La Torre and Frank Stevens are expected to be appointed to the local public safety retirement boards for the police and fire departments.

There will be approval amending the fiscal year 2013-14 budget adoption for the city.

The mayor’s report will include updates from the Arizona Department of Transportation meeting as well as the Sonoran/Southwestern Mayors’ meeting; councilmember Luis Greer will provide an update about his conference call with Joe Biden, vice president of the United States.

Tonight’s meetings are open to the public.
