On Friday the Lady Bulldogs were in Tucson taking on a Cholla team that would hand the Bulldogs an 81-61 loss.

The Bulldogs fell behind early trailing 27-17 at the end of the first quarter and 39-31 at the half.

Cholla used a 29-18 third quarter surge to take a 68-49 lead into the final period.

Luis Padilla led the Dogs in scoring with 10 points, Bobby Zamora followed with 10 and Eduardo Ysea and Fernando Diaz each had nine.

“The kids played very hard and gave great effort,” Bulldog coach Oscar Mariscal said. “We fell behind in second half and could not recover and make it close.

Against Bisbee Dec. 13, the Bulldogs played a solid first half and then had to hang on for a 65-61 win.

Douglas led 22-19 at the end of the first quarter and 40-25 at the half.

The Pumas opened up the second half with an 11-2 run closing the gap to six.

Ignacio Valenzuela’s three with two minutes left in the quarter pushed the Dogs lead back up to 10.

In a span of 90 seconds Bisbee erased that 10 point lead with an 11-0 run taking 48-47 lead.

Ysea’s three at the buzzer gave the lead back to Douglas at 50-48 heading into the final period.

Ysea’s three in the fourth gave the Dogs a seven point lead but again Bisbee came back with an 8-0 run to go up by one.

Tied at 58 with 2:35 remaining Bisbee hit a three to go up 61-58. Ysea countered with a three tying the game at 61.

Padilla’s jumper with 25 seconds left gave Douglas a 63-61 edge.

Bisbee was fouled with six seconds remaining in regulation and a chance to tie the game. The Pumas missed both free throws and Ysea scored two more points off the rebound as time expired giving Douglas a four point win.

Bisbee’s Anthony Castellano led all scorers with 24 points.

Ysea led Douglas in scoring with 20 points while Padilla followed with 14 and Zamora contributed 10.

“We played well,” Coach Mariscal said. “We had a very good first half and were able to hold on in the second half. I’m very happy that our kids played hard and were able to pull out the win.”

On Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012 the Bulldogs fell to Willcox 64-61 after beating the Cowboys earlier in Douglas.

Nick Menduett led the Bulldogs in scoring with 13 points, Diego Galindo and Valenzuela each followed with seven.

Down 16-15 at the end of the first quarter the Bulldogs were outscored by Willcox 23-10 in the second quarter as the Cowboys took a 39-25 lead at the half.

The Bulldogs fought back in the second half outscoring their opponents 20-11 in the third and by two in the fourth but cam up three points shy in the end.
