DHS matmen go 0-2 in dual meet

TUCSON – The Bulldog wrestling team went 0-2 in a tri-meet multiple Wednesday, Jan. 9.


The Bulldogs fell to Rincon 46-26 in their dual meet.

Thomas Cardenas, wrestling at 106-pounds, pinned his opponent in five minutes.

Rogelio Martinez, wrestling at 113, won his match by technical fall 18-3.

At 120, Christian Ross won a 9-7 decision over his opponent.

Douglas forfeited its 126 and 132 classes.

At 138 Michael Molina was pinned in three minutes while at 145-pounds Saul Salinas dropped a 16-0 decision.

At 152 Raymond Alvarez was beaten 6-0; at 160 Brandon Moreno fell 20-4.

Brandon Cardenas, wrestling at 170 for Douglas, pinned his opponent in two minutes.

Carlos Estrada was pinned in 1:30 at 182-pounds while at 195 James Briseno was pinned in 1:30.

Roly Ruiz was pinned in two minutes at 220 and heavyweight Jason Linden won his match by forfeit.

In the match against Sahauro the Bulldogs were beaten 66-10.

Douglas’ two lone wins came at 106 where Cardenas won by a 16-0 major decision and at 182 where Carlos Estrada needed just 28 seconds before pinning his opponent.

Martinez was pinned in 2:18 at 113; Ross dropped a 9-2 decision at 120; Molina was pinned in 1:25 at 138; Salinas was pinned in 1:38 at 145; Alvarez dropped a 6-0 decision at 152; Moreno was pinned in 2:30 at 160; Cardenas was pinned in 3:32 at 170; Daniel Gonzalez was pinned in 28 seconds at 182; Briseno was pinned in 5:11 at 195; Ruiz was pinned in 3:16 at 220 and Linden was pinned in 1:13 at 285.

Douglas forfeited its 126 and 132 pound classes.

    " Wrestling is a tough sport to recruit....former wrestlers understand the dedication and discipline it takes for six minutes...if your lucky! Three hour practices....weight discipline....school...off season freestyle....that you must drive 2 hours away to compete in...running...weight training....funding! Middle school program...summer camps...if you don't have the right support...don't expect to win! There are wrestling coaches in Douglas...I don't want to mention their names because I do not have their permission...the lack of passion for sport has severely crippled the program...I will continue to cheer for them because "We are Douglas BulldogsBulldogs!" "

    " douglas needs a new coaching staff. from the top to the bottom. for the past 5 years ALL the coaches and assistant coaches have been a joke. "
