With air pollution on the rise especially during the winter months, Douglas City Councilman Ben La Forge is seeking help.

La Forge will be submitting photos, documentations and a summary of the air pollution issues that the Douglas community along with Agua Prieta are facing to the International Boundary and Water Commission (IBWC).

The IBWC is responsible for the monitoring and remediation of any hazardous conditions that may exist on the Southwest Border.

“This information will be shared with the IBWC section in Nogales, Sonora and a later determination will be made if a further review is warranted,” La Forge said.

La Forge feels that with the re-established relationship with Agua Prieta there is an opportunity to address any critical or social economical issues that exist on the border.

Air pollution can affect a persons health in many ways with both short-term and long-term effects.

Young children and elderly people often suffer more from the effects of air pollution. People with health problems such as asthma, heart and lung disease may also suffer more when the air is polluted.

If air pollution is severe, it may cause eye irritation and or cause a person to have trouble breathing.

While air pollution may or may not cause asthma, it is more likely to trigger an attack if a person already has asthma.

“Progress is being made. Our staff is productive and resourceful,” La Forge added. “We find it rewarding to be a part of this quality of life improvement.”

" Since when did Mr. Laforge become captain planet? Obviously if your believing in his concerns for this town you must still be leaving out cookies and milk for Santa Claus. Anything that this individual gets involved with there is always a huge benefit for him. Your better of investing in a can of febreze for clean air NEIGHBOR!! "

" Go figure Maty, rather than responding positively to Mr. La Forge’s request of promoting a healthy environment in our community, you sarcastically and personally insult his intelligence, awareness, and creative thinking. Obviously, you do not have a mutual purpose and I feel you do not need to get involved. Then, there are others, like me,that do appreciate a clean and healthy environment. I am old and asthmatic, having to consult a pulmonary specialist every month. We do need to pay attention in having and keeping a healthy enviornment. An example is- the smelly-burnt tires that consumes our town ever so often. It's called pollution! Recognizing and encouraging our Douglas citizens to get involved in the enviornment is an excellent idea. Stop discrediting his attempt in requesting the whole community to get involved.
Maty, get informed, with a clear understanding and mutual purpose, you might choose to join forces with Mr. LaForge in searching for an environmental solution that will serve everyone in our community. "

" If la forge is involved this is just as bad as the phone scams Sheriff Daniels warned about I'm sure there will be some kind of kick back to our town hero Benny! "
