Event organizer Johnny Perez said this has been going on for close to 20 years. The Lions Club members visited all the schools in the DUSD as well as Loretto, Omega Alpha and CAS.

They talked about the importance of the flag and what it means to them. They also handed out a flyer that had some interesting facts about the American flag.

The U.S. flag has three distinctive colors: Red for courage, white for liberty and blue for loyalty.

The flag also had seven red and six white stripes for a total of 13 which stand for the 13 original colonies that eventually made up the United States. The 50 stars stand for the 50 states. Hawaii was the last state to join the U.S. becoming the 50th state on July 4, 1960. Arizona was the 48th state joining on Feb. 14, 1912.

From sunrise to sunset the United States flag flies over the White House whether or not the President is in Washington. The U.S. flag also flies over the Capitol every day.
