The Cochise County Sheriff’s Department is continuing its search for a man who they believe was involved with a load of marijuana that was discovered inside a vehicle he was allegedly driving last week.

According to a statement by Cochise County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Carol Capas, on Feb. 27 at approximately 3 p.m. the CCSO received information of a vehicle possible carrying a load of drugs north on Highway 191.

Deputies spotted a vehicle near mile maker 15 matching the description of the vehicle.

The deputies attempted to make a traffic stop on the brown Ford F-150 but the driver failed to yield and increased his speed continuing northbound on Highway 191 eventually turning east on Davis Road and then north on Leslie Canyon Road.

Deputies lost sight of vehicle due to dust and road conditions when vehicle turned on Barr Boot Ranch Road.

The vehicle was later located in the area of Barr Boot Ranch Road by both CCSO and Border Patrol.

The driver, later identified by the CCSO as Jacob Ausmus, of Pearce, was not found in the area.

Officials did find 10 find bundles in clear plastic wrap which appeared to be marijuana. The bundles were later verified to be 171 pounds of marijuana valued at $85,500.

The CCSO is currently looking for Ausmus who could be possible charge for unlawful flight from a law enforcement officer, criminal damage and driving on a suspended license.

The investigation is continuing by the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office.
