DYBL begins second season

The Douglas Youth Basketball League began its second season last week with opening ceremonies followed by a game in the Huber Middle School gym.


In the only game on Monady the Mi Ranchito Celtics edged the Ortega’s Clippers 41-39.

Jesus Martinez scored a game high 30 points for Mi Ranchito. Sergio Molina followed with 6, Josh Ranck 3 and Albert Galindo 2.

For the Clippers Erik Anguiano scored 22 points, Nathan Grijalva had 14 and Alan Anguiano 3.

On Wednesday, Feb. 27 the Backdrop Photography Heat beat the David’s Plumbing Thunder 44-36.

Jude Romero led the Heat in scoring with 18 points. Adrian Dominguez had 10, Jose Ballesteros, Miguel Ballesteros and Michael Lomeli all with 4 and Andrea Rodriguez and Emilio Galindo each 2.

For the Thunder, Oscar Sodari scored 10 points, Artie Acosta 9, Jesus Ruiz 8, Jose Ortiz 4, Jose Ruiz 3 and Andreas Ellinas 2.

In game two that night the Deca Den Bulls edged the KDAP Knicks 34-32.

Andres Robles scored 18 points for the Bulls while Ryan Arzac ad 7, Anthony Mora 6, Arnold Burquez 2 and Armando Sanchez 1.

For the Knicks, Aaron Arias had 13 points; Kassy Encinas and Adrian Ruiz each had 4, Marcos Buelna 3 and Alan Cruz, Julian Encinas and Jenny Buelna all with 2.

On Feb. 28 the Bulls edged the Thunder 34-29.

Robles led the Bulls with 10 points, Arzac and Mora 5, Michael Quinonez and Burquez 4 and Andrea Mora, Adrian Beltran and Anthony Mora each had 2.

For the Thunder, Ruiz had 8 points,Jose Ortiz 7, Sodari 6, Jose Ruiz 4 and Ashley Calhoun, Juan Pablo Ortiz and Acosta each 2.

On Friday, March 1 the Clippers beat the Knicks 40-28.

Eric Anguiano scored 29 points to lead the Clippers, Alan Anguiano had 4, Melanie Perez 3 and Isaac Mendez and Jazmyn Romero each had 2.

For the Knicks David Rodriguez scored 8 points, AJ Ruiz 7, Julian Encinas and Marcos Buelna each 4, Jenny Buelna 3 and Jonathan Nieves 2.

In the late game the Heat edged the Celtics 34-33.

Romero led the Heat in scoring with 13 points, F. Ballesteros 9, Lomeli 8 and Rodriguez and J. Ballesteros each had 2.

For the Celtics Martinez scored 13 points, Molina had 6, Galindo 5, Paige Mariscal 4, Marc Rodriguez 3 and Ranck 2.
