The Douglas Lady Bulldog tennis team began its season Friday with a 9-0 win over Flowing Wells.

Marissa Aguirre, playing No. 1 singles for Douglas, won her match 6-0, 6-3.

No. 2 singles Erika Romero was a 6-0, 6-0 winner.

Kim Ruiz won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3 singles and Fernanda Quiroz was a 6-1, 6-1 winner at No. 5 singles.

Andrea Quiroz won her No. 5 singles match 6-0, 6-3.

Sienna Martinez was a 6-0, 6-0 winner at No. 6 singles.

In doubles play Aguirre and Ruiz were 8-0 winners.

Romero and Quiroz also won their match 8-0 as did Andrea Quiroz and Martinez.

In JV play Friday, Leah Ortega won 6-1; Alexis Manasco won 6-1;Lucy Serrato won 6-1; Adrianna Rodriquez won 6-0; Ari Machado won 6-0 and Nicole Verdugo won 6-0.

Douglas’ tennis coach Ken Cormier said he was quite pleased with the performance of his players in the season opener.

After losing his top four players from last year's team that went 16-2, the coach was concerned about the lack of experience of this year's team going into the season.

"I was very impressed with everyone's poise, and how confidently they played, this was a very positive start for us," he said.

The Lady Bulldogs were at Amphi on Monday, at Benson on Tuesday, hosted Nogales Wednesday and Buena on Friday.
