The Douglas Police Department is continuing its investigation following a pursuit through Douglas Tuesday, March 5.

According to Sgt. Jose Duarte of the Douglas Police Department, a warrant has been issued for the driver on charges of unlawful flight from law enforcement, felony endangerment, reckless driving and criminal damage.

At approximately 5:50 p.m. Douglas Police Officers responded to a call for an agency assist regarding a vehicle not stopping for law enforcement.

Duarte said officers observed the vehicle, a gray in color Nissan, as it entered the city limits near 22nd Street and Pan American Highway. The vehicle was reportedly driving west towards 16th Street with one of its tires flat and possibly on rims.

Duarte said the vehicle drove through the intersection at 16th Street and Pan Am. and continued on before attempting to make a left turn onto Ninth Street where it crashed striking a parked vehicle.

The two suspects fled but were later detained. The passenger was turned over to the U.S. Border Patrol for questioning while the driver was tased and later transported to Tucson for unknown injuries he allegedly sustained while being chased.

“(We) will be seeking a warrant for the driver who is not being identified at this time,” Duarte said. “Although no drugs or contraband were found in the vehicle officers are still continuing with the investigation along with the U.S. Border Patrol.”
