The Douglas Lady Bulldogs basketball team was honored at its year end awards banquet March 5 at the Douglas Noon Lions Club.

Douglas’ basketball coach Clint Hill said the season was a success.

“(We) won the Benson Tournament; (took) second place at the Tombstone tournament losing to Sabino ending up 19-7 with six of those losses coming to teams that made the state tournament,” he said. “We will miss our seniors. Once again the booster club did an awesome job supporting the program.”

Hill said he is currently working towards next year with an open gym Monday- Thursday from 6 -7 p.m. at DHS gym.

“All prospective or future players are welcome,” the coach said. “Looking at the schedule next year we will need to work hard just to compete.”

The coach said the Lady Bulldogs start with Flowing Wells the state runner-ups followed by Tucson High.

“It will be tough, but it will also mean more if we make it to post season,” he said.

At the banquet the coach presented the following seniors with their pictures from Mom and Dads night: Karina Avechuco, Danae Meza, Marissa Aguirre, Aleen Nunez, Janella Frantzeskakis, Laura Hurtado, Jesus Bustamante and Victor Rojas.

The coach also honored the following individuals who had a 3.5 or better grade point average with Academic Awards: Karina Avechuco, Danae Meza, Marissa Aguirre, Crystal Zamora, Vanessa Moreno, Susan Resendiz, Nancy Rodriguez and Johanna Jimenez.
