Crews from the city of Douglas water department had the task of repairing another water line break last week. This one happened at the intersection of 12th Street and Florida Ave. City officials said the 10 inch pipe had a crack in it which allowed it to come up through the asphalt. Florida Ave. was shut down from 11th to 13th Street from Monday to Tuesday afternoon. The pipe was estimated to be about 100 years old and the age plus the amount of traffic along Florida combined with the fact it was approximately 12 inches under the asphalt may have led to the crack. Just last month Omega Alpha had a major break at their school which is nearby this crack. Chubby Flores said that leak and this leak were from two completely separate types of pipes. When finished city crews replaced approximately six feet of pipe.
