BB’s Danceur Performing Academy held its summer recital last month in the James A. Brenden Auditorium at Douglas High School.

The close to three-hour production was themed “Abysa Ocelis” and featured 125 dancers who performed 39 different ballet, jazz, modern/contemporary, hip hop, Polynesian/drumming, aerial silks and acro dance types of dances

During the intermission, BB’s Dance Director/Choreographer Bibi Hernandez honored her three-and five-year students. The three-year students that were honored were: Scarlette Diaz, Camilla Ortiz, Vianney Valencia, Keylen and Kristen Leal, Allison Lopez, Paulina Orozco, Angelina Escarcega, Kristella Riley, Arcelia Larra, Ashlee Mejia, Claudia and Dayanara Martinez.

Five-year honorees were: Annika Davila, Kathleen Miranda, Paulette Enriquez, Aniya Cisneros, Marcella Paco, Raelynn Salazar and Natalia Larios.

Choreographers for the June recital were: Alan and Jessica Rubio, Mary Nosek, Osmar Castilblanco, Harley Harris and Raelynn Salazar.

Bibi said this was the seventh year her studio held its summer recital.

“I’m really careful what we present to the public,” she said. “I want to make sure what we perform is appropriate for their age division. I try to make sure the music is clean. I want my students to concentrate on technique when they perform.”

BB’s Danceur Academy, located at 1905 10th St., performs two recitals each year, one in June and another in December. Registration is underway for the next session of classes which begin Aug. 12.
