Haven of Douglas hosted its annual Garden Party on Thursday, March 28.
Employees at the facility as well as family members of some of the residents residing at Haven donated plants that were placed inside plant holders in the court yard. Everyone was then treated to a lunch of hamburgers, hot dogs and potato salad.
Walmart helped out donated several bags of planting dirt that were used in the replanting of the plants.
According to Erika Peralta, the Activities Director for Haven, the Garden Party has become an annual event.
“We use this as a way to get our court yard ready for spring,” she said. “We have an awesome volunteer team that helps us with this event.”
Kristine Verdugo, Peralta’s assistant, said this was her first year taking part in the Garden Party and the staff and residents all seemed to have fun.
Peralta says Haven of Douglas holds events like this at least once a month if not more.
“We try to get the families involved as well as the staff,” Peralta said. “We have activities every day but we try to have one big event every month.”
Haven currently has 50 residents at its facility with openings for 14 more.
Next up for the residents of Haven of Douglas will be the Easter party which will be held Friday, April 19 at 10 a.m.
