Local businesses are being encouraged to participate in the 16th Annual Douglas Care Fair scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 3 from 9-11 a.m. at Airport Park.
Making Connections/DBA Cochise Connections, Freeport McMoRan, Christian Life Center, The Douglas Dispatch and local businesses in Douglas are working together to host the back to school event which will include the popular pony rides. Gabriel Robles from DJ Legacy will be providing music and updates throughout the event.
Last year’s Care Fair attracted more than 1,200 families.
“It is an incredible community project,” said Adriana Romero, programs director for Cochise Connections. “Our goal is to assist as many families as we can by providing backpacks and school supplies to children and youth in need. We are asking local business to donate a raffle prize (tickets for food, haircuts, coupons, etc..) to help us with our raffle during the back to school event.”
Donations may be dropped off at the Douglas Dispatch located at 530 11th Street. If you are unable to drop off your donation, you may call Managing Editor Bruce Whetten at (520) 234-0145. He will stop by and pick up your donation. Please make sure to include your business card as we will make sure to include your organization as a sponsor.
Romero noted the Douglas Unified School District is a large school district with approximately 4,010 students. More than 85 percent of those students are either on free or reduced lunch.
“There is a tremendous need to help these families who are struggling,” she said. “This year we are expecting a higher volume of students attending the back to school event. As a result, we realize it will be difficult for us to have enough backpacks to distribute as a couple of our larger sponsors cut in half their financial sponsorship for our back to school event.”
If you are also interested in participating in the event please contact Romero to sign up, so we can reserve space for your organization.
Contact email is email@example.com and the phone number is (520) 461-4880. Be sure to sign up as soon as possible, to ensure your spot at the event! Space is limited. Organizations can also register at our website: www.cochiseconnections.org
Another pre-planning meeting is scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 24 at the Douglas Dispatch. Anyone interested in taking part in the Care Fair is invited to attend the meeting.
