Celebrate Douglas’ past, present and future, this weekend at Raul Castro (10th Street) Park.
The 5th Annual Douglas Days festival is a two-day event, hosted by the City of Douglas, that
commemorates the day Douglas was incorporated – May 15, 1905. It is a fun family-friendly event for all ages.
The weekend’s festivities will be celebrated throughout the community. The event opens on Friday with a welcome ceremony at 5:15 p.m. at Castro Park followed by the Third Annual Douglas Days Talent Show, featuring the community’s most talented individuals from all ages.
Auditions for the Talent Show will be held Wednesday, May 16 at 6 p.m. at the Gadsden Hotel, open to all ages and talents.
Delicious food vendors, talented craft vendors, informational booths and a beer garden will be present at the park Friday and Saturday.
Friday night will feature music by the Thunder Mountain Band of Sierra Vista and Michael Pelayo of Douglas.
Saturday’s festivities kick off with a 10 a.m. parade rolling through downtown along G Avenue, followed by bed races, free Slaughter Ranch tours (meet at 1001 D Avenue at 11 a.m.), hayrides, a car show, kids entertainment, music and dance by Douglas’ own talented performers as well as Chad West Trio, Ensamble Ecos, and La Gran Ciudad.
Registrations are needed for the 2018 Bed Races, which typically draws team participants such as the Douglas Fire Department, U.S. Border Patrol, Southwest Gas, Douglas Dungeon and more. Registration costs $25, and forms are available at City Hall.
Don’t miss your chance to snap a selfie with Miss Douglas Days and Teen Douglas Days 2018. They will be present at many of the weekend’s festivities. In other locations, watch youth and adult soccer.
