A 70-year-old Douglas man has been arrested on charges of assault, disorderly conduct and false imprisonment.
According to Officer Jamilette Barrios, public information office for the Douglas Police Department, on December 7, the DPD initiated an investigation on a Douglas resident, identified as Armando Figueroa; for assault on a woman.
Officers were able to locate Figueroa outside his residence where he was detained and later transported to the DPD for questioning. After being interviewed by DPD investigators, Figueroa was arrested and later booked into the Cochise County Jail.
Officer Barrios reports that Figueroa has had previous encounters with the DPD.
On November 18, 2018, the department opened an investigation on the Douglas resident for engaging in sexual abuse.
“The Douglas Police Department’s Investigation unit was made aware of Figueroa’s employment being a Douglas Unified School District employee,” Barrios said. “During the course of the investigation, detectives were able to confirm the offense did not take place during work hours. The investigation resulted in an indictment by Cochise County Superior Court, on one count of Sexual Abuse. in April 2019.”
On September 16, 2019, Figueroa plead guilty to one count of sexual abuse-intentionally or knowingly engaging in sexual contact with a minor under 15 years of age, a Class 3 Felony. “Figueroa was sentenced to a lifetime supervised probation and must register as a level one sex offender for the remainder of his life,” Barrios said
