Three bands from the Douglas Unified School District were given the opportunity to perform in front of a record crowd at Chase Field in Phoenix on Saturday, Aug. 31.
Select band members from Douglas High School, Ray Borane, and Paul Huber Middle Schools joined seven other bands from across Arizona to open game three of the Diamondbacks versus Dodgers in their four-game series.
Young faces from Douglas splashed across the scoreboard as they performed the Star Spangled Banner on right field for the venue billed as the “D-backs Band Night.”
This was no ordinary band night, however, as the Diamondbacks reported “a sold-out and record crowd of 51,180” there to watch the D-backs win 6-5. The venue was also a first for Douglas schools.
Nathan Darus, band director at both DUSD middle schools, said that it was “an amazing experience.” Darus thanked fellow band director at DHS, Joel Dodd, and band parents for making the event possible, as well as, praise for the students representing Douglas, saying “I was very proud of their performance.”
