Douglas residents are invited to take part in the Fourth of July festivities that are scheduled for Thursday, July 4.

A Freedom Parade, starting at 10 a.m. up G Avenue, kicks off the day’s events.

Beginning at 11 a.m. until 9 p.m., there will be a variety of events taking place at Veteran’s Memorial Park on Eighth Street.

The Eighth Street festivities will include vendors, musical entertainment throughout the afternoon and evening, a car show, and a wide variety of contests.

There will also be a youth and adult homerun derby. The cost to participate is $10 for adults; $5 for youth. Each participant is allowed 10 swings and must provide their own pitcher and bat. Pre-registration for the derby will take place from 3-4 p.m. the day of the event.

There will also be a 3 on 3 basketball tournament open to all boys and girls ages 6-17 from 5-7 p.m. There is a limit of four players per team. To register for the tournament call (520) 417-7340. Entry fee is $20 per team. The winner of this tournament will receive 50 percent of the proceeds.

At 12:30 p.m. the pool at Veteran’s Park opens and will remain open until 7 p.m.

Weather permitting, the Douglas Fire Department will launch its fireworks display at approximately 8:15 p.m. The show is expected to last 30-45 minutes.

Those planning on attending the activities at the park are reminded that no vehicles will be allowed inside the park. No glass containers will be permitted and beer permits for that day have been waived.
