At the July 10 Douglas City Council meeting Mayor Robert Uribe presented Donna Henderson with a proclamation declaring Saturday, July 27 as Mr. Wonderful Days in Douglas.
Howard Henderson, known not only throughout the community but also the county and state as “Mr. Wonderful” passed away unexpectedly Nov. 20, 2015 following a short illness.
To honor his memory the Douglas Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Black Crown Entertainment, KDAP Radio and the City of Douglas will be holding a Mr. Wonderful Days event Saturday at KDAP Radio, located at 2031 N. Sulphur Springs Road. The event is going to serve as a fundraiser for KDAP Radio.
The day will kick off with a live Trading Post from 7-10 a.m. There will also be a Biker Rally and a Country Dance from 8 p.m. to midnight. Music will be provided by the Chad West Trio.
There will be fun, food and raffles.
Local vendors are invited. Cost to participate is $10 a table.
“Mr. Wonderful is someone that is someone that is incredibly missed,” Mayor Uribe stated in his remarks at the council meeting. “He is a special person that we all admire.”
Councilman Ray Shelton added Henderson was so great in when it came to announcing the Bulldog games on KDAP that when he did pass, people at other schools who knew of him and expected to see him whenever Douglas played at their schools, were shocked when they were informed of his passing.
“We’re hosting this event to honor the memory of Mr. Wonderful Howard Henderson,” Ralph Robles, one of the organizers said at the council meeting. “We invite the community to come out. We hope to do this fundraiser once a month heading up to November where we hope to have the official inauguration of Mr. Wonderful Days on the third Saturday of November every year.”
Robles announced he is working with city officials to get the street in front of KDAP renamed in honor of Mr. Wonderful.
