Douglas High School’s graduating Class of 2017 along with the PTSO, hosted a Valentine’s Cake Auction on Monday, Feb. 13 in the DHS cafeteria.
Some items were pre-priced and available for immediate purchase; there was also a silent auction as well as a public auction.
In all close approximately 80 cakes, pies and assorted goodies were sold.
Event organizers report close to $1,800 was raised which will be used to help with Project Graduation May 26.
The average price of the cakes at the public auction was $20-$25 while the silent auction averaged $40 per cake. The most expensive cake went for $50 and was purchased by a local resident who asked he not be identified.
Cochise County Supervisor Ann English made the first purchase at the auction and ended up buying five cakes. Other families purchased three or four.
Marina Montano said the event was very successful and they would like to thank all those who purchased cakes.
