Collections are underway for the U.S. Marines Toys for Tots and Douglas Holiday Drive, hosted by the Douglas Fire Department and the City of Douglas.

The community is being asked to help “Stuff the Truck” on Friday, Dec. 6 from 4-7 p.m. at the Douglas Walmart on Fifth Street.

Preferred items are: non-perishable food items, new unwrapped toys, new winter jackets, monetary donations which are tax deductible, in addition to items for the elderly.

Items gathered with stay in Douglas, helping out those local families in need.

Norma Galindo, one of those spearheading the drive this year, is asking Douglas to please step up and put a smile on the children’s faces this holiday season.

“When we make deliveries, we usually get referrals of families in need either with food baskets or toys for the children,” she said.

Galindo says the start of the Holiday Drive has been somewhat slow, but she is hoping it will pick up.

“There is a need here locally,” she said. “We’d like to make sure our kids in the community are taken care of this holiday season.”

In addition to the Stuff the Truck event this Friday at Walmart, donations can also be dropped off at the Douglas Fire Department on 10th Street, all this week.
