The City of Douglas annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony and parade will take place Saturday.
The tree lighting ceremony will take place from 4-7 p.m. in front of City Hall on 10th Street.
There will be musical entertainment provided by Mariachi Tesoro of Tucson. Douglas’ merchants will also be recognized.
The official flip of the switch to light the tree will take place at 6 p.m. followed by the parade at 7 p.m. up G Avenue.
The theme this year is “A One and Minion Christmas.”
Jennifer D. Smith, Leisure Services Manager for the City of Douglas, has announced there will be Saturday parking restrictions beginning at 4 p.m. affecting the 900 block and 1,000 block of G Avenue for the parade.
“No parking on the 900 and 1,000 block of G Avenue prior to the parade,” she said. “And street closures from Saturday to Sunday affecting 10th street between G and H Avenues for the Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony expires at 10 a.m. Sunday morning.”
Contingency plan in place
Smith is informing that a strong and cold winter storm system will move into the area this holiday weekend.
She encourages parade goers to stay warm and stay informed of changes in the event schedule for the Christmas Parade and Tree Lighting Ceremony. Stay connected through Douglas Recreation & Aquatics Facebook page, Douglas Dispatch Facebook page, or call 520-417-7340 for updates.
