Vaccination clinic attracts small crowd

This Siamese cat named Smoke is given its shots by Dr. Michael John of High Desert Veterinary at the July 20 Discount Vaccination Clinic.

Dogs and cats of all sizes, shapes and colors showed up along with their owners to a Discount Vaccination Clinic that was held Saturday, July 20 at the 10th Street Park.

The event was hosted by High Desert Veterinary and the City of Douglas.

Sally John of High Desert Veterinary reported that 60 clients attended the five-hour clinic and 74 dogs and cats were inoculated. Forty-one rabies shots were administered by Dr. John and 69 distemper combination vaccinations were given.

“(It) was a good and productive day although not as busy as some vaccination clinics,” she said. “The heat and humidity could have contributed to this. All in all, no complaints.

Tentatively planning another vaccination clinic in November. Thank you again to the Animal Control Staff and Susie Hurtado for volunteering; the Douglas Dispatch and KDAP for advertising; and for the responsible pet owners for supporting these clinics.”
