The Douglas Art Gallery closed out its Monsoon Art Show Saturday that had been display all throughout the month of July at The Gallery on 10th Street.

Prior to the closure, the winner of the Viewers Choice Award, sponsored by Vicky Merritt of Edward Jones, was announced.

Based off of votes from those who visited the gallery, the winner was a painting called “Purple Monsoon” submitted by Linda Fox of Chandler. Fox is a member of the Douglas Art Gallery. Her parents are Jim and Pay Geymont of Douglas.

According to Pat, Linda is a professional artist who has been panting for over 40-years. She is a graduate of the ASU Art Program and is a member of the Scottsdale Portrait Artist Association.

In her entry information Fox said, “Whenever I visit southern Arizona, I am always inspired by the beautiful landscape and skies, especially during the monsoon season. It’s the best time of year.”

Event organizer Mary Fogleman reported there were 57 submissions this year for the July exhibit and 28 of those submissions received votes.

Two votes back in second place was a picture called “Powerful Tranquility” taken by Sandy Shiloh of Portal.

Fogleman added she felt the July show was a success and several pieces of art work were actually sold.

Coming in September will be a display by the Preciado family of Douglas. A date has yet to be announced for their gallery reception.
