As a way to say “’thank you” to our local educators Douglas’ Walmart hosted a Teacher Appreciation Event on Saturday, July 13.

An estimated 200 plus educators showed up where they were presented with a goodie bag filled with items they could use to start the school year which begins next month.

They were also treated to cake and ice cream.

Walmart Assistant Manager Richard Yanez said each store was encouraged to reach out to its local teachers and let them know that they appreciate what they do for our students.

“This is just a small way of giving back for all that they do,” he said. “We provided them some coupons with some great savings that can be used in our store.”

Yanez’s wife and mother-in-law are both educators in the DUSD so he sees first hand all they do for their students.

“We know it’s not easy for them,” he said. “This is our way of helping them out while helping the community as well.”

Bic 3, Crayola, Sharpie, and Fiskars all participated in the event as well, Yanez said.

Walmart is planning another community event, called Full STEAM ahead on Saturday, July 27 from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Full STEAM Ahead is a family-friendly event bringing you a day of engaging activities that parents and kids will love.

“Come visit us in-store to tie-dye your own shirt, make your own slime,” Walmart’s Facebook page reads.
