A water line break shutdown a section of F Avenue for several hours Saturday.
The break happened shortly before 8 a.m. in the intersection of Fifth Street and F Avenue in what city officials are saying was an eight-inch main water line for the city.
Shutting off the water to repair the leak would mean shutting off the water to the entire city. City crews instead worked around the leak, eventually placing a metal patch over the part where the leak was coming from, allowing local residents to continue to have running water while the leak was being repaired. Meanwhile thousands of gallons of water could be seen gushing high into the air, at times creating a rainbow.
It is believed the break was caused by the old water pipes that run through the city.
Several blocks in the area of the break remained closed most of the day while city crews worked to patch the pipe.
