Daniel Ortega, Sr.

Daniel Ortega passed away peacefully July 28, 2019 at the age of 86. He was born on November 16, 1932 to Juan and Concepcion Ortega. Daniel was the eighth of 12 children. Daniel graduated from Douglas High School in 1952 then proudly served in the United States Air Force as a member of the 23rd Bombardment Squadron. He was honorably discharged in 1956.

Upon returning home, Daniel began helping run the family shoe stores in Douglas and Sierra Vista. In 1959 Daniel married his sweetheart Georgina Lopez and together they raised five wonderful children; Cecilia (Sergio) Romero, Danny Jr. (Anne) Ortega, Gina (Louie) Tartaglia, Geri (Ed) Gardea and Gabriel (Lisa) Ortega. They were blessed with 17 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren who have filled their hearts and home with love.

Daniel was very active in the local community serving in various clubs and organizations. He was a member of the Douglas Noon Lions Club, the American Legion, the Bushmaster’s Club, the IDA, and graciously helped out at St. Luke’s Church. He was very supportive of all local sports organizations and a proud Bulldog supporter, but most of all he loved his Dallas Cowboys.

Daniel was a man of great faith and instilled the values of faith, family and community in his children and grandchildren. He will be dearly missed.

Daniel’s services were held on August 2, 2019 at St. Luke’s Catholic Church with burial at Calvary Cemetery. We, his family, would like to thank Haven of Douglas for the wonderful care they gave our husband/dad/tata during his time there. We truly appreciate all you did for him.
