Manuel P. Zamora entered eternal rest on November 29, 2018 at the age of 89.
He was born on January 6, 1926 in Gallup, New Mexico to Procopio and Apolonia Zamora. Manuel grew up in Hatch Valley near Garfield, New Mexico where he attended Hatch Valley High School and was later drafted into the United States Army where he served his Country honorably in the Korean War. In the early 1950’s, the family moved to Southeast Arizona to farm in the Double Adobe area. Manuel married Emilia Gonzalez in 1954 in Douglas, and in 1962 they moved to Elfrida. He worked at Ft Huachuca as a civil servant, eventually retiring in 1982 as a warehouse manager after 28 years.
Manuel and Emilia were happily married for 44 years and raised 11 children. After Emilia’s death in 1998, Manuel was blessed with many years of companionship with Lupita Miller. Manuel was a member of the American Legion and an active member of St Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. He enjoyed farming, dancing, listening to Mexican music and having coffee with friends. But most of all, he loved being surrounded by his large extended family, especially his grandchildren.
Survivors include his brother Fermin Zamora of Elfrida; children Manuel (Linda) Zamora of Glendale, AZ; George (Lisa) Zamora of Vail, AZ; Brenda (Eddie) Silvas of Tucson, AZ; Danny (Irene) Zamora of Elfrida; Ernie (Kirsten) Zamora of Tucson; Polly (Bob) Vorholzer of Tucson; Raul Zamora of Elfrida; Fred (Sabrina) Zamora of Elfrida; Copy (Dana) Zamora of Marana, AZ; Becky Noble of Elfrida; and Miki Zamora (Jose Guzman) of Elfrida; 26 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at St Francis church in Elfrida on Saturday, December 8, 2018: Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. followed by a Rosary at 10 a.m., with the Funeral Mass being celebrated 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Douglas.
