As we approach the holiday season, I’d like to inform the community of upcoming events in Douglas.

This holiday season, you can give back to those in need by participating in the jacket, food, and toy drive going on now until mid-December. For the past several months, city staff along with other agencies have been working diligently to provide a memorable holiday season for those in need. We encourage the public to help us “Stuff the Truck” with items needed for our programs. These items include blankets for the elderly, winter jackets for school children, non-perishable items for the food basket program, unwrapped toys, and monetary donations.

“Stuff the Truck” will be at Walmart on December 6 from 4–7 p.m. Any of these items can be donated on-site or at the Fire Department located at 1400 10th Street.

On Saturday, November 30, don’t miss the official kick-off to the holiday season at the annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony at City Hall. The festivities begin at 4 p.m. and include musical entertainment by Mariachi Tesoro de Tucson. The flip of the switch to light the Christmas Tree will take place at 6 p.m. This year, the city will honor the Douglas Merchants.

After the tree lighting ceremony, make your way to Downtown G Avenue to experience the best Christmas Light Parades in Cochise County. The parade begins at 7 p.m. and features a variety of floats sure to put the community in the holiday spirit. The deadline to turn in applications to be part of the parade is on November 26.

Douglas on Ice is set for December 14 and will take place in the middle of Downtown G Avenue. This wonderful community event features ice skating, a visit from Santa, a toy for each child, movies, food vendors, craft vendors, and more.

For more information on our programs or services, visit or call (520) 417-7340.

My warmest wishes to the Douglas community during this holiday season!
