Those of you who were able to join us at the Christmas Parade and Fourth Annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony saw that our community is very much alive and ready to celebrate.
We were incredibly pleased by the turn out and would like to thank all City staff who helped make it possible. I would especially like to thank the parade entrants for putting on a spectacular show. Douglas continues to be home to Southern Arizona’s biggest Christmas parade.
Mayor Uribe closed Saturday’s ceremony with recognition of our local merchants. Several small business owners have reached out to the City and the public to encourage local shopping this holiday season.
We would like to extend that same encouragement and ask that you please consider doing your holiday shopping locally.
“One of the biggest advantages we have over larger retailers is the ability to provide more personable, hands-on and memorable customer service.” Ana Altamirano, Owner of Son Paises said in an open letter to the community. “When you support a local business, you are also supporting the community that you live in.”
This is something to keep in mind year-round as the local merchants continue to support and host special community events. We understand the convenience of shopping online or at bigger box-retailers, but please take the time to browse local first. One household can really make a difference.
Thank you for your support, and Happy Holidays!
