Here are some of the great things happening here in Douglas:

Downtown G Avenue update: The reconfiguring of the Downtown parking from parallel to diagonal parking started on February 6; The Downtown Douglas, G Avenue Streetscape design has been finalized and was approved by council at the Feb 12 council meeting.

Port of Entry update: The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)/Government Services Administration (GSA) planners have contacted us in advance of their visit to let us know that EPA technical assistance contract has been issued to Renaissance Planning. We have worked with Renaissance extensively over the years to deliver this type of assistance (planning the corridor between current port and future commercial port). We expect to be contacted in the next several weeks to set up a kick-off call.

Library update: Free taxpayer assistance is being offered by AARP at Douglas Public Library every other Thursday from February 20 — April 2, in the Large Conference Room — 10:00 a.m. — 6:00 p.m., and the Small Meeting Room -10:00 a.m. — 1:00 p.m. & 2:30 p.m. — 6:00 p.m.; Advanced appointments are required.

Airport update: Runway Lights continue to be repaired, a project that has taken some weeks; City staff is working to locate and install a new gasoline hose-winding mechanism, which the pilot requesting the repair offered to pay for.

Leisure Services update: City Staff is working to get quotes on a Parks Master Plan; Community Center year-round programming is beginning in February; Capital Improvement projects like resurfacing the baby pool, basketball courts, cemetery restroom upgrades, Durazo Field concession stand, etc. are in process.

The City has applied for a transfer of ownership from the Arizona Army National Guard to the City of Douglas of the shooting range through the Bureau of Land Management. The shooting range will not be closing.

City Administration has met with several developers to bring housing and businesses to Douglas. Our economic development efforts have been in full force as we continue to meet with developers.

Census day is coming. April 1, 2020. The City will have kiosks available throughout the City to help residents sign up for the Census. Follow City of Douglas Facebook page for announcements.
