What a pleasure it is to be able to share more information about the collections, programs, services, and operations of the Douglas Public Library (DPL).
For example, did you know that 6,951 Douglas children and 8,915 Douglas adults have active library cards? And that in just the past year, DPL issued 667 new cards to 283 children and 384 adults? Did you know that 82,252 patrons visited the library last year and borrowed 32,166 items? And that through our free Interlibrary Loan Service, we borrowed and loaned an additional 6,881 items both within Cochise County and throughout the United States?
Did you know that we offer free weekly pre-school and family story times; movie screenings for kids and teens; STEAM Club (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Math) for kids ages 6-12; a six-week “Fun with Math & Science” summer program for children ages birth-6; Adult Book Discussion groups; and free weekly English-language classes? Did you know that in just the past year, library staff produced 265 programs for children, teens, and adults that were attended by 3,504 people? That our local teachers arranged library tours and orientations for 312 students? And that over 200 kids participated in the free Summer Reading Program?
Did you know that DPL provides free on-site Wi-Fi and free public computers, and that those public computers were used 9,915 times last year? Did you know that you can schedule free one-on-one computer help with knowledgeable library staff? Or that DPL was awarded grant funding from the Arizona State Library so that we can lend mobile hotspots (“the internet in your pocket”) to patrons in good standing, and that the program is so popular that hotspots were borrowed 766 times last year? Did you know that we offer both on-site and mobile printing (send print jobs from your own networked device to the DPL Print Station from anywhere and pay only our standard printing fee)?
Did you know that DPL offers public meeting rooms that were reserved 683 times last year, providing free meeting space for 2,342 individuals and groups? Did you know that all it takes to reserve a room is a quick call to 417-7352 to schedule a day and time?
Most community members probably know about our print collections of books, newspapers, and magazines. But, did you know that DPL also lends manga, movies, and music and offers free digital e-book, e-audiobook, and e-magazine downloads? Did you know that DPL offers a free citywide subscription to the New York Times online and access to free online research and test-prep and practice exams – including the GED in English and Spanish, ASVAB, EMT, BP, civil service, nursing/allied health, cosmetology, postal service, CDL, real estate, teaching, social work, U.S. citizenship, TOEFL, TOEIC… and more? Did you know that DPL has resources that than help you start or grow your business? It’s all free with your library card!
