Apaches chalk up fifth straight win

The Cochise College Apaches knocked off Arizona Western College, 76-66, Saturday night in Cochise Stronghold.

Tied at 35 at the half, the Apaches outscored the Matadors, 41-31, the second half.

Cochise College’s Naje Smith led all scorers, scoring a game high 24 points. Arion Lewis followed with 13 points.

Cochise, 17-6 overall, 11-4 in conference, is tied for second with Scottsdale Community College for second place in the ACCAC behind first place Eastern Arizona College.

Eastern comes to Douglas Wednesday for a key ACCAC showdown with the Apaches. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.

Lady Apaches bounce back

After having their 10-game winning streak snapped last week in a loss to Central Arizona College, the Cochise College Lady Apaches got back into the win column this past Saturday night in a, 66-55. win over Arizona Western College.

Cochise trailed, 14-10, at the end of the first quarter, but then outscored Western 21-14 in the second, taking a 31-28 lead at the half. A 17-11 run in the third gave the Lady Apaches a 48-39 lead heading into the fourth.

Raena Suggs led the Lady Apaches in scoring with a game high 20 points. Kayla Harris and Janessa Johnson each followed with 14.

The Lady Apaches, 15-7 overall, 11-4 in conference, remains in third place in the ACCAC, behind unbeaten Central and second place Mesa.

Eastern Arizona comes to Douglas Wednesday for a key ACCAC showdown with the Lady Apaches. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
