Apaches unbeaten to start season

The Cochise College men’s basketball team is unbeaten to start the 2019-20 season.

All the wins have come inside Cochise Stronghold.

The Apaches kicked off their season Nov. 1, beating the Northern New Mexico JV 133-66. Cochise led 67-38 at the half and outscored their opponents 66-28 the second half.

Milan Szabo led Cochise in scoring with 28 points. Arion Lewis and Naje Smith each scored 21 and Patrick Samoura chipped in 16.

On Saturday, Nov. 2, Cochise defeated Hillcrest Prep 116-85. Cochise led 58-35 at the half and outscored Hillcrest by just eight points the second half.

Lewis and DuPriest each scored 23 points to lead Cochise in scoring. Kyle Moore followed with 20, Aaron Garcia had 19, Samoura 14, and Szabo chipped in 11.

On Monday, Nov. 4, the Apaches downed Taylor Made Prep 114-65, leading 45-34 at the half. In the second half Cochise outscored Taylor Made 69-31.

Lewis led Cochise in scoring this game with 24 points. Damon Wall followed with 17, Quayshawn Gentry followed with 13, Szabo had 12, Moore 11 and Smith contributed 10.

On Thursday, Nov. 7, a game scheduled against Planet Athlete Academy was cancelled.

Cochise will take to the road for the first time this coming Thursday and Friday playing Howard College on Thursday and Lee College on Friday. Both games will take place in Tucson.

Conference play begins Wednesday, Nov. 20, when the Apaches host Pima College. On Saturday, Nov. 23 Cochise will host Scottsdale Community College. Both games will begin at 7:30 p.m. There is no admission charge to the home games.
