Bulldogs go 1-2 at Brandon Bean

The Douglas Bulldog soccer team kicked off its season last week going 1-2 at the Brandon Bean Invitational.

The Bulldogs began the season Monday, Nov. 26 beating Buena 4-2 at Armando de Lucas Stadium.

On Tuesday, Nov. 27 the Bulldogs were in Tucson where they fell to Rincon 3-1.

On Wednesday, Nov. 28 Douglas lost to Ironwood Ridge 3-1 in a match that was played at Salpointe High School.

In the match with Buena the Bulldogs struck first scoring a goal eight minutes into the match on a Joaquin Escalante goal.

Buena came back and tied the match at 1 four minutes later.

With 9:30 remaining just before halftime the Bulldogs retook the lead when Escalante again scored.

Two minutes later however Buena scored and the match was tied at 2 at the half.

Miguel Sosa converted a penalty kick 10 minutes into the second half which would give Douglas a 3-2 lead.

Alan Ruiz then scored with 16 minutes left in the match increasing the Bulldogs lead to 4-2.

Douglas out shot Buena 6-4 this match.

In the loss to Rincon Alek Samaniego had the Bulldogs lone goal coming off an assist from Miguel Sosa in the seventh minute.

Samaniego had the Bulldogs lone goal against Ironwood Ridge scoring off an assist from Adrian Arciniega.

Rincon and Ironwood Ridge advanced out of pool play and on to the tournament round.

Sunnyside High School beat Tucson High 3-2 Saturday in the championship match.

The Bulldogs return to the field this week. Douglas had a rematch with Buena on Tuesday and then will host Desert View on Dec. 11.
