Several members of the Douglas Bulldog baseball team have been awarded All-Region honors.

Sophomore Diego Alan Ochoa was named the Gila Region’s Defensive Player of the Year.

He was also awarded first team honors along with Leo Felix and Jose Ruiz.

Second team honors went to Emiliano Mata, Pablo Somoza and Carlos Quijada.

At the team banquet that was held several weeks ago coach Gilbert Rojas presented Quijada with the Bulldog Award; Ochoa was awarded the Offensive Player of the Year and Mata the team MVP.

Coach Rojas also announced Mata and Somoza had been selected to play in the Senior’s Game and Ochoa, Felix and Ruiz in the Future’s Game.

Both games were played Tuesday, May 28 at the Kino Sports Complex in Tucson.

The Bulldogs were 13-5 overall this past season and 8-2 in both conference and region play. Douglas won its state play-in game at Combs High School and then fell to CDO in the next round.
