Bulldogs win two key games

The Douglas Bulldogs returned from Christmas break to pick up to big wins last week.

On Tuesday, Jan. 7, the Bulldogs hosted the 5A Empire Ravens in a non-conference game in the DHS gym. Douglas won the game 75-50.

Two nights later, the Bulldogs were in Tucson taking on Amphi in the Gila Region opener. Douglas won this game 69-58.

In the win over Empire, Douglas’ Jesus Ruiz scored a game high 25 points to lead all scorers. Francisco Lugo followed with 22 points and Samuel Ramos chipped in 15.

Douglas led Empire 26-12 at the end of the first quarter and 45-34 at the half. Empire cut the Bulldogs lead down to eight in the third but a 17-7 run in the fourth gave Douglas its comfortable 25-point lead.

Against Amphi, Douglas led 21-15 at the end of the first quarter and 39-25 at the half. The Bulldogs outscored the Panthers 22-10 in the third taking a 61-35 lead into the fourth.

Christian Estrella, Lugo and Ruiz each scored 15 points this game. Ramos followed with 11.

The Bulldogs, 4-5 overall, 1-2 in conference, and 1-0 in region, hosts Rio Rico on Tuesday, Jan. 14 and will be at Walden Grove on Thursday, Jan. 16.
