Central Arizona College, who defeated the Cochise College Apaches in the first round of the Region 1 playoffs May 2-3, won the NJCAA national championship Saturday night beating Iowa Western 13-8 at the Junior College World Series in Grand Junction, Colo.
Central went 5-1 at the national tournament, their lone loss coming to Iowa Western on May 28. The Vaqueros battled their way back into the national championship game after that loss winning three straight games before avenging that earlier loss Saturday night.
Central was the fourth seed going into the Region 1 playoffs. Since entering the post season CAC has posted a 12-2 record and finishes the year 50-20.
The national baseball championship is Central’s third, the last coming in 2002.
