RIO RICO — Douglas High School’s cross country season came to an end Wednesday at the Division III, Section 1 meet.
While neither Douglas team qualified for state, the Lady Bulldogs did have two runners, Jenally Barco and Sophia Rio, individually qualify for state as both finished in the top 25.
In the boy’s race, there were 12 teams. Salpointe Catholic came in first with a score of 44 points. Walden Grove was second with 63, and Safford third with 71. The Bulldogs finished ninth with a score of 271.
In the girl’s race there were just seven teams. Douglas finished sixth with a score of 124. Salpointe was first with 21 points, Vista Grande second with 71, and Rio Rico third with 82.
Rio Rico’s Roshan Tinoco-Miranda was the overall winner of the boy’s race that had 81 runners, finishing with a time of 16:38.6. Jonathan Lane of Walden Grove, was second with a 16:42.6.
Konnor Cormier led Douglas with a 31st place finish and a time of 20:03.9 Javier Moreno followed in 47th place, finishing with a time of 20:59.6. Celedino Flores placed 60th, 22:13.2; Andres Guevera, 69th, 22:45; Ezequiel Ovando, 71st, 23:07.8, and Isaac Rivera, 72nd, 23:20.2.
Brynna McQuillen of Vista Grande was the overall winner in the girls race that had 53 runners. She finished with a time of 19:29.7. Zoey Delgado of Salpointe came in second, with a time of 19:44.3.
Barco led Douglas with a 15th place finish and a time of 23:07.5. Rico was 21st with a time of 26:51.4; Paola Leon was 33rd, finishing with a time of 26:51.4; Aidyn Durazo, 36th, 27:21.9; Andrea Amaya, 37th, 27:25.1; Jadelynn Magana, 43rd, 28:53.6, and Karina De La Vega, 49th, 29:49.0.
The 4A state meet will take place Saturday, Nov. 16, at the Cave Creek Golf Course in Phoenix.
