Douglas High School’s cross country teams were in Marana Saturday running in the Eye of the Tiger Invitational.
The Lady Bulldogs had an impressive showing finishing eighth overall.
Jenally Barco led Douglas with a medal winning 15th place finish and a time of 22:45. Sophia Rico followed in 25th place and a time of 24:10; Aidyn Durazo was 39th, 25:24; Andrea Amaya, 52nd, 27:16; Paola Leon, 28:13, and Mia Verdugo, 59th, 28:17.
There were 71 girls running in this race.
In the boy’s race, there were 108 runners and the Bulldogs finished 11th overall out of 14 teams.
Konnor Cormier led the Bulldogs with a 21st place finish and a time of 18:39; Celedonio Flores was 52nd with a time of 20:13; Javier Moreno, 61st, 20:41; Andres Guevara,75th, 21:21; Ezequiel Ovando, 92nd, 22:54, and Isaac Rivera, 95th, 23:43.
On Wednesday, Oct. 23 the DHS runners hosted Catalina in what was Douglas’ final home match of the regular season. The race was the final home meet for seniors Amaya, Cormier, Flores and Moreno.
The Lady Bulldogs ran against a Catalina team that had just two runners. Douglas scored a perfect 15 points in the win. Barco led the Lady Bulldogs with a winning time of 20:43. She was followed by Rico, who came in second with a 23:18; Durazo finished third with a 23:37 and Amaya, fourth, with a 25:09.
JD Magana finished fifth with a time of 25:50; Karia De La Vega placed seventh with a 28:08; Diya Beltran was eighth with a 29:32 and Anitzel Burgos, 11th, with a 32:17.
In the boy’s race, Catalina edged Douglas, 25-30.
Cormier placed second overall this race with a time of 18:05. Moreno finished fourth with a 18:53; Flores, sixth, 19:26; Guevara, eighth, 20:27; Rivera was 10th with a 21:16; Fernando Vildosola, 11th, 21:52; Ovando, 13th, 23:13; Juan Valenzuela, 14th, 23:37; Jose Loreto, 18th, 25:25; Hugo Tovar, 19th with a 25:27, and Ramon Carrera, 20th, 29:06.
The DHS runners are back in Tucson, Wednesday, Oct. 30 running against Catalina, Santa Rita and Palo Verde in a multi-team race.
